We receive a call from Jason's aunt and she tells us that she met a pregnant woman who couldn't keep her baby. She told us that she had told this woman all about us and she wanted to meet us, that is, if we were interested in adopting her baby.
We hopped in the car and zoomed to meet her. We spoke for an hour, maybe more, and all came to the agreement that we would adopt her baby.
September 4-28, 2010
We met with the birth mother several times and took her to lunch. We spent many hours talking with her and got to know her. We even brought her to the house so that she could see where her baby boy would be living, and to assure her that we were ready and excited.
Delia took her to all her OB appointments. And both of us got to see her ultra sound and see our baby boy.
We hire a lawyer to get the necessary paperwork in order.

Jason's aunt calls us very late at night and tells us that she thinks the baby will be born soon. We prepare ourselves to get an early morning call and go to bed.

After a rather quick and surprising labor and delivery, Owen Johnathan is born! He weighs 7lbs 14.7 oz and is 19.5 inches long.
Owen's birth mother signs paperwork stating that we have custody and power of attorney over Owen.
We spend the next three days (all of us got to stay in the hospital) getting to know our baby boy.
Owen's birth mother stopped in a couple of times to see him and hold him.
October 2, 2010
Owen goes home with us!
October 7, 2010
We take Owen to see his birth mother one more time before she heads south.
October 2010
Paperwork is set in motion for Owen's adoption.
March 8, 2011
Paperwork has been sent to probate court. The lawyer told us that it will be 1-2 months before we are given our court date. The courts will tell them (the lawyer) what they need to publish in which papers to hunt down Owen's Birth Mother so she can sign paperwork. I do not think she will resurface to sign, but we have to be able to prove to the judge that we tried (and when I say "we" I mean the lawyer, because he will do all the heavy lifting, that is of course why we hired him!)
:Coming Soon:
May 16, 2011We are scheduled for a Guardianship hearing to extend our Power of Attorney over Owen. This is because the paperwork Owen's Birth Mother signed has run it's course (it was only for 6months). We still don't have an adoption hearing.
